Stronger Muscles and Your Immunity
Stronger Muscles and Your Immunity

Your immunity system changes as you age.
Exercise and making yourself stronger are the things that you can do to help improve things.
Your muscles make special hormones called myokines, which help the immune system find the infection in your body and then go for the inflammation to control it.
This situation is important when fighting viruses like Coronavirus.
Above the heart is an organ called the thymus and this has the role of producing new immune cells.
The thymus normally starts to shrink after 20 but a study of a group of cyclists found something different. The group comprised of 84 men and 41 women, aged from 55 to 79. Each of their thymus had changed little and that they were as fit as people much younger with high immunity. This group had been cycling for many years.
You don’t have to cycle, your fitness can be achieved in a number of ways.
This information is from the work of Janet Lord at Birmingham University.
I have included her video for self isolation below. It’s an interesting watch.
